quilt back

I have a done quilt back.  For some reason, this one seemed to take much longer then normal.  It was probably my head space because what I really wanted to do was keep making nine squares.  20 more and I have enough for the next quilt I am making.  And my friend is not feeling well so I really hope it helps when she gets it.  I will eventually make one for me and I am excited about starting that as well.

My arthritic conditions have been really playing with me recently.  Injuring myself has not helped.  I think right now I would rather buy and grow flowers then food.  Well, except maybe for tea and homemade bread for toast.  My list for this weekend is overwhelming and I know it will not all get done.  I can hope that parts of it do.

a bit of stitching finished

I finished putting together the quilt top for Baby Nacho this morning.  And the batting came!  I decided to buy a whole bolt instead of little bits.  I do make quilts.

I have come to realize that even when I have laid out the quilt, I really do not know what it will truly look like until it is stitched.  And even then, it takes the binding on it for me to decide if I like it or not.  There has only been one quilt that I have really not liked but then I picked none of the fabrics for it so that is not surprising.

I might get the back finished this weekend.  I might now.  I am trying to spend some time in the garden and at the computer.  Time always goes by so fast.

The Paloma

I came home to five pounds of grapefruit yesterday.  Before yesterday, I would have said that I really do not care for grapefruit.  Now, that I have been taught how to eat them and if they are Texas grapefruit, I can say I like them.  My Beloved had a customer teach him and give him the grapefruit.  The funny thing was that I had come across a recipe for an adult beverage using grapefruit early in the day that I wanted to try.  Life is interesting.

I find I actually like grapefruit better then orange.  Who knew?

To make the grapefruit syrup that this recipe calls for, I used a cup of grapefruit pulp and juice in my normal syrup recipe (1 cup water and 1 cup sugar).

the paloma

2 ounces tequila

1/2 ounce lime juice

2 ounces grapefruit syrup

ice

soda water

Mix the tequila, lime juice, and grapefruit syrup together.  In a glass (about 12 ounces), put ice.  Pour the mixture over.  Fill the rest of the way to the top with soda water.

The recipe I say called for salt and grapefruit soda.  I do not care for salt with my tequila.  I made my own soda, really.

I started another quilt while I have been working on Baby Nacho's.  This is actually for an adult friend.  I am very excited about it.  I wanted to send her a hug but Connecticut is a little far for my arms.  A quilt will just have to do.

baby nacho's quilt is laid out

While I was making the twins' quilts, I was also working on nine squares for Baby Nacho's quilt.

I have started stitching all of these together.  But I admit that I will be away for a week and a bit.  That will slow the process down!  Soon hopefully soon!

Mr Gray's quilt is done too!

Mr Gray's quilt is done too!  I really wanted the twins quilts to be delivered at the same time and I accomplished that.

I actually used the same fabrics in the tops and part of the backs.  For Miss Ellie, I put the pinks and light colors in the middle.  For Mr.  Gray, I put the blues and greens in the middle.

Their Momma liked the quilts so much she brought us fresh out of the oven brownies.  Yum!  I got a hug from their Poppa.  They are afraid to use them but I make them to use them.  The Tall Short Person's is still being used twenty six years later, machine washed and dried.  Yes, some of the quilting threads have broken but that is not surprising.

By the way, our oven works!  My Beloved and the Small Mister fixed today after I found the parts yesterday.  Life is good.  There is a cake I wish to try.
