hoping for a quiet weekend

I think the title of this post says it all.  I am hoping for a quiet weekend.  So far so good.  I spent time in the garden this morning and found lots of seedlings.  We had a lot of heat with little rain most of August and then started to get rain.  This has been a lovely surprise.  It does mean that my weeding does not seem to make as much as a dent because I am much more careful but it does mean that I might get more flowers this autumn.  I was lamenting to myself that I did not get as many flowers as last year.  It looks like I may.  I also ordered seeds for my winter garden yesterday.  Much brassicia.  Now if I can get something started before we leave for Alaska.

The rest of the day I have been working on this sweater.  I am making the sweater up as I go so I took out the back and started it again.  I also finished spinning the rest of the fiber into yarn for it.  I have had such a lovely time at my spinning wheel that I picked up more fiber to spin instead of working on the sweater.  It all has to get done.

There are other tasks I can do in my rocking chair this weekend that mean projects get done.  It may just be time to sit at my spinning wheel.  I do know the grocery store and the library are errands I have to run.  But that is just part of life.

Hopefully you are having the weekend you hope for.

next is sassafras

In the evenings I spin.  We watch videos.  I spin.  Small Mister yells "spinning wheel"  when my wheel comes out.  Sometimes it is just a spinning wheel.  He loves to work the treadle.  On my sewing machine too!  Sometimes it is many other things.  A pirate captian's wheel.  A race course for McQueen.  Part of the flight path or airstrip for his many planes.  I

understand more and more how women used to spend all winter spinning for their family.  That does not even include the time for making something with the yarn that is produced!  Last week, I finished the merino yak yarn I was spinning.

I am about to start on the dyed portion of Sassafras.  I have a very dark brown fleece I really wish to work with but Sassafras is next.  This fleece was dyed with normal fabric dyes and avocado.  That is why there are to tones.  Then, I will deliver or ship it to Mrs. J.  Mr. J is not going to want to go into the yarn room!

I have an update on my health.  I seemed to have caught a bug going around work that is described as interesting by doctors.  In another words, they do not know what it is.  I am hoping with enough rest I will be pretty much okay.  Otherwise, getting to and from the mountain and working on the mountain is going to be very, very interesting.  Maybe I get to be a slug!  Too bad I have not built a chair for up there yet!

off to the races

It was a weekend in the tent house because we went to the races.  MotoGP that is.  My Beloved and the Small Mister like their motorbikes so I bought them a Christmas present.  But Small Mister could not join my Beloved so I went to the races with him.

I admit that I took a new project with me because most of my projects are not in a very carry size stage.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed myself.  Now, I did know some of the people and had an idea of what was happening because I have listened to a lot of races as the boyos have watched them.  I even will ask questions because that is how much I have listened too.  I like the physics of it all.

I started a new sweater in crochet that is a knit pattern.  May I say, sitting on a hill watching motorbike races is probably not the best time to convert a pattern.

This is what I had this morning but I have ripped much of it out.  I really needed a flat spot to measure.  And able to see the pattern better on my phone.  Maybe next time I will remember to print it out first!  This sweater is going to be so soft and I will probably have more spinning to do for it before it is all over.

Not a bad way to spend the weekend.  This next weekend we will be in the tent house again with family.  I am hoping to get some junk shop shopping in.  Never know what you will find.

sweater is done!

My Beloved's sweater is done!  Or at least to pattern.  His first handmade sweater even though his Mom makes sweaters.  We have decided that I am going to add a few more rows of ribbing to each sleeve.  I may need to spin more yarn.  But that is not a hardship.  I have spun all the yarn for this so far.

Making the sleeves a bit longer will mean he will not have to wear his "blue" to keep his wrists so warm.  He told me that it made between his shoulder blades VERY warm.  He is planning on wearing "blue" and this sweater on the land.  I am curious to see how long he can keep it on!

Now, once the ribbing is done, the rest of the fleece goes to my sweater!  And I get to figure out how to make
