with my sore hands

After I screwed up my hands on Saturday, I still had things I wanted to do around the house.  I had finished the current quilt top I was working on and it was time to baste.  Baste with safety pins.  I guess it was easier then trying to use a needle and thread but by the time I got to this task, my hands had bigger bandages that were held on with masking tape.  Latex free bandages just do not stick well but I react so badly to the regular ones.  Weeping wounds on either side of the original wound.  So not fun!  The masking tape trick works really well.  Sticks to the bandage and skin if I need.  Duct tape works to by the way.

My stiff hands slowly got all the pins in.  I had found a piece of fabric in my stash that I did not need to piece for the back.  It has been a long time since I have made a simple fabric backing but I really like this fabric.  It just being quilted will be cool.

My hands are out of bandages today.  One wound does not hurt.  The other still does.  Both will heal and then I will go into the garden again.  It is a little bit cooler because there is a slight chance of rain and a few clouds are floating through.  But today was still inside for healing.  And making more yarn.  And the stitching of the quilt.  I might be in a place to have the binding being worked on this weekend.  Then I need to make lunch plans so I can gift it.  Makes me smile.

a bit of stitching since I got back

I have been taking a bit of time each day at my sewing machine since I got back.  I have a quilt top put together and I am pleased.  Especially since today I ended up in bed after work.  It is just a flare but I felt like I was run over by a truck.  But I got through the day and I have this beauty to look at.  I am working on the back now.

I have to figure out how to have time at both my sewing machine and spinning wheel every day.  Work seems to get in the way of living my life the way I wish.  It is what it is though.

quilts laid out

Every time I sew, I make nine squares.  I may have mentioned this in the past.  It means I always have a quilt in the works.  Sometimes I just sew nine squares.  Sometimes I sew nine squares while I make other things.

When the building for work was closed mid week, Koda Bear and Miss A went to the Children's Museum.  Yes, it was open during a tropical storm and they had a great time because there was hardly anyone there.  I took the quiet to lay out two quilts.  It was actually very nice not to have a small boy helping.

Now I did have help from my Beloved.

His color sense is not mine so these quilts are not quite what I would have made.  But that is okay.  I am actually making cashmere and cotton squares right now.  All solids.  I may make a quilt and keep it for myself.  Or I might not.  I will see.

a quilt done

This week, when I have a few minutes to myself, I have been working on finishing this quilt.  Just the binding needed to be done.  But I have to admit that I felt like I have been on the verge of getting sick most of the week.  Either it is me getting sick or it is a fibromyalgia flare.  I know which I am hoping.

But the quilt is done.

And the little girl it is for was born this week.  It shall mailed next week and hopefully a letter off to her Grandmother too.

pinning

Before we went off to SAFF, I got the quilt I am working on pinned for quilting.  I made a pot of tea.  Put a movie on since I did not have a Small Mister to help me.  And pinned.

I actually needed something like this today and did not have it.  A task that had a definite beginning and end.  No dithering people who could not decide on action around me.  I patience level for dithering this week is nil.  Right up there for my patience with whining.  This is the behavior at work.  I feel like I accomplish more pining a quilt or spinning.  Much spinning has gone on but it does feel a bit neverending at this point.  Neverending story involving fiber.  It does make me smile.
