the story of my life

I finally got some clear space on my to do chalkboard.  I decided to put a list of food requests on the board because I get told "We should have (insert) soon."  I figured this was the best way.  Notice the PIE(S)?  My Beloved wrote that there.  It means only one type:  shepherd.  I guess I am making more shepherd's pie soon!

So this blanket wrapped around Small Mister (who is 14 months old now) ended up in the washer and dryer.  The Tall Short Person was very upset because she actually uses it to wrap around her while she is on her couch.

I had her pick the yarn, ordered it, and I started another for her today.  It travels well in my backpack for working on during lunch.

I do have uses for the felted blanket.  Just too many!  Really, this is my life.

pumpkin killer!

My Beloved had decided to make me a knife for Christmas.  He had picked out two sets of scales for the handle and asked me which I liked the best.  Then he asked me what type of knife I wished.  I told him that I wanted a knife that I could use on pumpkins.  Not a cleaver but a big knife.  I needed something with a good tip to get through the rind on the first cut.  Last year, we grew thirty pumpkins and I damaged knives cutting those all up for canning.

Then, we rewatched the Lord of the Rings trilogy.  We both really liked Aragon's knife.

This is my PumpkinKiller!

It is close to Aragon's but not the same.

And see what a beautiful handle it has?

It just makes me smile.  Pumpkins, here I come!

what I did over my break (and Christmas)

I had four full days off from work and we went camping again.  We went truck camping.  The bed was in the back of the "new" Suburban and I had a stove to cook over.  We even really did not have much in the fire pit.  That is because most days it got to warm to really need a fire.

The birds would wake us in the morning.  They would feed on the lake making the most interesting noises.  That many wings beating the air does.  We spent time walking and we had a skateboards.  My Beloved's medical supplies came in handy but not for us.  We came upon a volunteer who had crashed his tiny truck.  All the other people had no medical supplies.  Last we heard, he was fine but still being observed.

We even did some antiquing.  I came across some old linens that will be come some else when it is all said and done.

It is hard to be back.

frustration

Today there was a bit of frustration day.  One of my favorite work dresses had an incident with a chain link fence.  There was a hole in my dress.  Which means that I cannot wear it to work anymore.  I could wear it camping, in the garden, or around the house.

But I really needed another dress to bicycle in  and skateboard in.  I took a pair of scissors to the skirt and then hemmed it.

I now have another dress to wear on wheels.  I like having short sleeves and the buttons.  I will admit that I will really miss having this color dress for work.  I am looking for linen to replace it.  I already found the wool but I cannot wear wool around here most of the year.  I was looking for the same color for wool for our land.  I was wanting wool the last time we were on our land and did not have it.

a little bit of Christmas

I thought I would share a little bit of our simple Christmas.  The roses are drying now but the tree is still pretty.  I was hoping for some white lights but I waited too long.  The ones we had are very dead.

I finished another pair of pajama points.  Warm and cosy with pockets.  For my Aunt.  I think we all need a little bit of warm and cozy right now.  I spent about three hours ironing fabric today.  Mostly because it will make more stitching later eaiser but also because I needed to do a quiet repetitive task.  Saying prayers as the Desert Fathers did, in my daily tasks.
