i need new garden gloves

I have been spending time in my garden almost everyday since we got back.  It is a jungle.  From my top step, it looks better but the amaranth hides much.  My neighbors say the amaranth and sorghum give my garden a Dr. Suess feel.  But then I have zinnias that are as tall as the amaranth.

I do admit to not weeding Sunday or today.  Really, it is pulling out the grass. Grass that cuts like paper.  Especially when I am going after it with exuberance and I need new gardening gloves.

Bandaged is the bits that bled.  Oh well.  It is supposed to be 97 or 99 tomorrow.  Maybe the heat will heal my hands as I beat them up more!

By the way, I thought the computer was going down.  It still may.  I have not figured out how to do anything on my phone yet.  It would require changes and there are enough other changes currently.  Maybe someday.

quiet weekend

It was a full but quiet weekend.  I did not finish many tasks but I did a lot.  There was spinning and sewing, errands run.  I actually got some time in the garden.  Between all the rain and heat I will never get caught up but that gardening currently.  Letting the garden get away from you at all means many hours weeding.  I just do not have many hours.  Especially in the morning when it is cooler and less insects.

I am enjoying the zinnias and there are turnips to add to the fish and chips I am planning for dinner soon.

If I could get into the garden soon, I know it would help with the worry about my Grandmother.  She took a fall or falls this weekend.  She is hospitalized and the is that there is brain bleeds.  If so, the action taken will be bringing in Hospice.  At 104, that is the best decision but it does make me sad.  In many ways, I would love to be like her when I "grow up."  Either of my Grandmothers truly.  So prayers, good thoughts for the best path please.

my first zinnias this year

Before I left for gallivanting, my first zinnias bloomed.  They are so pretty.  There are more now and I will cut another bouquet soon.

I need to spend time in the garden because it has become a jungle.  It rained so much while I was gone that the mint stands waist high.  I ate salad from the garden tonight and it was a bit leggy due to the heat and amount of water.  It did taste good.  I like a simple salad.

I need to spend morning this weekend pulling weeds.  But I am actually hoping for surf.  Or if not surf, time at the beach.  It is not like the Oregon coast.  The Gulf is just not but it soothes similarly.

Coming back to work was interesting.  I had people wait for me to come back to make requests.  I am not imagining because I was told this was the path taken.  So after dealing with a interestingly busy day.  Fun in some ways.

I have spent the evening spinning and crocheting, watching Call of the Midwife.  Hoping a bit for good sleep and surf.  Should have taken my boards, surf and skateboard, all long boards.  There were many people at the campground, dirt bags, with both.  I would have been even more relaxed.  But that is life.

quiet weekend

It was a very rainy weekend here.  Flooding actually.  It meant I did not go much farther then my rocking chair or the kitchen.  After all my sewing last week, I really did not feel like working on my sewing machine, spinning, or working with my crochet hook.  By the end of the weekend though, I started thinking about it.  Pondering.

I did pick flowers.  I am a flower junky like I have said before and I decided to do the #SeasonalFlowerAlliance that Floret Farms instigates on Instagram.  The goal is to take pictures of the flowers you pick locally and put into some type of a bouquet.  I actually have an Instagram account to do this now:  @elibjerklie .   I will take pictures of what I pick from my yarn and enjoy everyone else's.  More flowers!

I did have to share this picture though.  I laughed at myself because this is a quiet weekend in my kitchen!

day of the dead

I have no marigolds left for the day of the dead but I have lots zinnias still.  I am really happy with all my flowers this year.  I could have had more vegetables but I think I would need a bigger yard.

My neighbor was telling me that she came home from a work trip and the amaranth reminded her as something from Dr. Suess.  The amaranth was probably twelve feet tall.  But it attracts butterflies, bees, and birds so I am keeping it.

It does make it very strange for trick and treaters.  Even with the porch light on, we really have to have someone standing there with the candy bowl ready do make them believe it is okay.

It is alright though.  My strange garden produces flowers which makes me smile!
